Another new sketchbook page to share with my fellow bloggers and creatives. :)
I've long been wanting to draw and paint spiders as I have a natural fear yet fascination of these leggy creatures. I won't say that they are beautiful but their ability to weave webs for hunting make them kind of supernatural (magical ??!!) to me. (I'm such a nerd.)

I like the idea of a creature setting a delicate glittering trap and then waiting patiently for the prey to move into it. So clever and wicked!
But you can see that in this little page of mine, the spider somehow fell on its back. No particular reason for such composition. I just wanted to see what it looks like to place the spider in an environment other than its own web.
I wonder what causes it falling onto the rocky ground. Any idea or theory?
I hope you enjoy my little work!
The sketch is also for Paint Party Friday - hosted by Eva and Kristin. All are welcomed! Do join in to share and support each other!
p.s. Apologize for the poorly lit photos, have been raining most of the time ...

The prey was too big and tore the net? Spiders are beautiful and perfect hunters. Although I do not like too many in my apartment.
Beautiful work. Happy PPF and have a great weekend, Annette x
Elegant style to your work ~ am wondering if you might turn the page upside down and add more rocks so spider is right side up? ~ thanks, namaste, Carol ~ Happy Weekend ^_^
I love your style but not the spider EEEK!!!!
I love the spider!!! Your art is wonderful. Great detail and color.

Really great work. I had a hard time looking at the closeup, though, because I'm not as far along in my efforts to deal with my arachnophobia as you are!
I've never thought of painting a spider before to face my fear, but you've done a lovely job here. And why is he on his back? Well, probably someone afraid of him like me sprayed him. LOL Happy PPF!
I love this....and your style....wonderful work.....the symbolism is perfect in this piece....
Very nice. I love the warm colors and the spider on his back is awesome. You have a great style. Love it! Happy PPF! I'm afraid of spiders too. tee hee.
I like your froma draw very clear and precise. Saludos
The work is awesome but for me, not so much in the spider. :-( I don't like spiders because of the wickedness as you point out. Happy PPF! :-)
Thanks for the peek inside your sketchbook. That's something I've just started experiementing with. I like your "dots."

interesting sketch, and yes, clever and wicked creatures!
Hi, love your painting the colours are sharp and love the contrasts... I expect that Mr or Mrs Spider was having so much fun at PPF's and slurped a little to much of the punch on offer and just fell flat on his or her back... :)
ver nice - i like that you took a different perspective of the spider and put her on her back -
happy ppf!
Being a rock-hound, I love the rocky ground your little spider is on. :)
♥♥♥
Happy PPF!!

Beautiful colors! I hope that little guy gets on his feet again ;).
clearly, the wind blew it out of its web! it will right itself and climb back up.

A lot of detail, beautiful work!! I almost felt it falling. Have a wonderful weekend!
Hmmm...might be that somebody sprayed poison around him. Hope not. He's beautiful.
This is more like your ole whimsical self and I love it!!
Very dimensional spider, you can almost feel the legs coming out of the page, moving. I´m glad I´m on the other side of the screen. ;)
This is great. I actually felt bad for the spider falling off it's web.
I'm not a fan of spiders either. so there. hee hee But you did a wonderful job on your journal page. Your rocks are great, too! :)
So nice to see you doing fanciful paintings again! I love this one. I think that spider will be rolled over and off in no time - but meanwhile you caught the wicked clever critter at its most vulnerable.
I like it very much!
I love how you are approaching both this fear and fascination by really taking a closer look!!! I like how you added a little whimsy by putting your spider upside down too! :)
Beautiful work, love the delicate lines and colors! Happy PPF !
Your style of drawing is fantastic, makes me want to see more. The colors are beautiful, even if I have to say I do not like spiders one bit hehehe (My family does, but not me)
Your colors ate wonderful and what a great sketchbook! Happy PPF!
I really enjoy viewing your sketchbook pages. They are so vibrant!
I don't know why it would fall that way, but I LOVE it - brilliant work with such beauty and detail! Bravo, xo
i share your interest in yucky spiders! love to look at them as long as they are outside! great drawing & painting! happy PPF!
I am not one that likes spiders, but I love your painting. :) Such wonderful colors and details too.
I understand your fascination with spiders and their webs! (Although spiders are almost a phobia for me!) But yes, like you, i can't help but be amazed when i see a spider web. Your illustration is great! Love the stones and the little black dots everywhere. xoxo
those stones are so beautifully painted... I really like this piece and think your palette and line work is lovely... xx
I love spiders....though, I wouldn't want one that big crawling on me....haha!
The stones look great! I'm sorry to say the only spiders I see legs up have perished....makes for an even more interesting composition :)
