What's in My Sketchbook?

After more than two months away from my sketchbook, I finally made a sketch page about two weeks ago.  And what a shocker!

20120220 Painting Tools

It was a struggle from start to finish.  Nothing went smoothly.  It's as if I have never painted before.  By the time when I finished it, I was pretty upset.

But instead of pecking on my wounded ego, I asked myself if I had learn anything from this sketchbook page.  One thing popped into my mind - painting is not like riding a bicycle, once you learn it, you'll never forget it.  Good painting skills require continual practice.

A valuable lesson learn ...

The sketch is also for Paint Party Friday - hosted by Eva and Kristin.  All are welcomed!  Do join in to share and support each other!

Cheers and have a wonderful weekend! xxoo

I've just gotten back into painting recently myself - I know this type of frustration! I liked our sketchbook page though and and feel that what you feel is lacking will return to you!

But it doesn't take as long to come back to it as when you first learn....you'll find your flow much sooner than you expect :)

So glad to have you back!!

One must "practice" her art to be at one with it. Your hand remembers. Best to get the mind out of it, because there's the critic saying it's not good enough. Let the hand go.

Yes, I know that experience of struggling and have had it quite a bit lately with my novel re-writing because I've been out of practice. But the good news is, looking at this from the outside, I think it turned out great & would be happy for my art to be as good. Next time hopefully your creating experience will flow & be a pleasure!

My experience is the opposite! When I let my painting go for a while & come back to it, all I have to do is give up "trying" to paint something and just let the paint flow. When I can truly let go, I achieve amazing results.

ps I like your journal page...

I think your sketch looks great! For me, the PAPER makes all the difference - especially when i'm using watercolors. Don't beat yourself up. There always the next painting/sketch. Happy PPF! xoxo

I like how your journal page turned out, but I understand the feeling of something not turning out how you wanted it to. You've got good advice hidden in here, I need to take what you've said to heart and paint more on a daily basis if possible.

Happy PPF! ~ Jaime

I really liked your sketch. Everything looks so real. I find I like my work so much better when I go back and look at it weeks or even years later.

Nice sketch, you're too hard on yourself!

Great to see you back J! And painting. This is fun and charming in the way your sketchbook always is. Don't worry - you will be back riding the painting bike expertly again in no time!

Awww... I think it's fabulous! I always love learning lessons in my work. And remember this... every painting, whether good or bad or anywhere in between, moves us closer to the artist we were created to be!!!
Keep up the good work...

I think even in this way it's beautiful but I do understand . Practice does make one increasingly better.Something I should do more often ; ) Still by all means a wonderful and beautiful sketch.

I really love this, love the loose textures. Keep creating. (Look at it like we do- we just see the finished product and have no idea what was in your head- ie the look you were going for!) Beautiful. Have fun and create!!! Happy PPF!
