What's in My Sketchbook?

Since I began my drawing and painting venture, I have written a list of things which I like to draw and paint.  I was hoping to work through it item by item.

But lately whenever I sat down to sketch, I kept going back to the bones and feather.  It is exactly what happens to this week's sketchbook page.  More bones and feathers ...

20110430 Bone & Feathers 2

Is it the shapes / textures / cultural meaning etc of the bones and feathers which compels me to draw and paint them?  All these answers sit both right and wrong with me.  I know this for sure - the images of bones and feathers touches something deep yet alien inside of me.

20110430 Bone & Feathers CU 1

20110604 Feathers

I call this my Alchemy of Bones and Feathers.  I also have a feeling that I'm in the process of developing my painting "language", or using another bigger, bolder and deeper word - Iconography ... if you know what I mean.

20110430 Bone & Feathers CU 3

20110430 Bone & Feathers CU 4

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this week's sketchbook page! ;)

The sketch is also for Paint Party Friday (hosted by Eva and Kristin).  All are welcomed!  Do join in to share and support each others!

Cheers and have a fantastic weekend!

I love the way your art evolves. I do like your girl portraits too. Maybe you could do a piece that combines feathers and girls?

Didn't see your link on PPF by the way.

You are like Picasso and his blue period only it is your bone and feather period.....Either way you make great sketchbook pages.

Actually, your sketches are in themselves a work of art ....Saludos

I love your bone and feather paintings, and I think you are on your way to developing your own iconography. If it was good enough for O'Keefe, it's good enough for us mere mortals.

Lovely work! I'm thinking these as symbols of you taking flight and also grounding yourself in a certain style. Just beautiful!

Lovely piece, your work really has a 3D quality to it, I love the colour combinations and the way you colour the background, it really makes the feather and bone pop right off the page. You have such a unique and distinct style. Love it! :0)

I like the way your paintings jump out. It's not easy doing bones and feathers, but you always do a great job. I love the blues.

Lovely. It's so interesting how different things speak to each of us. I think it's best to just go with what moves us. For whatever reasons.

This is lovely, you really did a great job on the feathers.

I was trying to decipher some of your journaling and thought I saw the word witch...
I instantly thought of a Shaman Medicine Woman character adorned beautifully in bones and feathers...looking so wise...exuding the knowledge of ancient secrets in her gaze! I don't think you need to save portraits for paint...an ink and watercolor washed girl would look amazing!

Loving your journey...and being here to share it with you :)

I am loving your sketchbook. I was out with friends and we picked up some feathers so you nay see one appear in my efforts. You did a fabulous job! (I see dots returning... maybe a starfish might eventually show itself?)
