Hybrid Tangles

This all went back to the time when I was doing Wreck This Journal ...

It was at WTJ that I got to know Kim, to whom I first learn about Zentangle. Then, or now on hindsight, WTJ has steered me to further creative direction and fun. It was at the end of WTJ that I decided I'll give Zentangle a try.

I ordered the kit (the deep green box in the photo) and started to collect "patterns" (the green box file) early August. Since the tangle is drawn on 89cm (approx. 3") square tile, I got myself a small green box to store them. As you can see, part of the fun is about getting the tools. (I adore gadgets!) ;)
The first tangle (left) I did was a straight copy from the instruction booklet. I picked and mixed the patterns to work on subsequent ones. I'm still fairly new to this so I can't quite yet write about my tangles (tangled) experience. But I can share this with you.

1) I'm drawn to the abstract patterns as a re-presentation of the strageness I write about in my stories.

2) It scared the daylight out of me when I decided to post my tangles. But I said to myself: Remember the fearlessness you felt when you posted all those pages of WTJ. Nothing could stop me!

3) I'm doing this for the pleasure of sharing ... and ... (oh, come on, crying out loud!) I'm also curious to know how fellow creatives find them. (Like this one on the right.)

4) I'm not promising (mostly to myself) anything, but maybe I could post 1 Hybrid Tangles a week? (See the bottom one with the blue background.) On Sundays?

What do you think? (I need some cheering here!)

Thank you and enjoy!

After you mentioned these a while back I had a nose on the website and was intrigued. I think they are really fascinating. Do you find them relaxing as promised on the site? Sort of artful doodling I guess. I nearly invested then held myself in check as first I need to finish all the million and one other creative projects I've launched myself into! Perhaps I'll put them on my Christmas list. Oh yes, and I'm so with you on the gadgets - I love all my little storage boxes - it's just a shame that most things seem to be spilled out of them all over the floor and desk!

I'm looking forward to seeing more Zenties* - please keep posting.

* Yes, I made up the abbreviation - the longer version is.... well.... rather a tangle!

It looks fascinating. I'll have to look into it further. I'm definitely cheering. Well done.

Oh Hybrid I am NO idea why you need cheering, even though I am cheering!
They are fabulous, yes really fabulous!

What a great concept....gee some people can "think outside the box".
I don't want to start another project at the moment but if you keep posting these each Sunday you will probably "lure me into your den"!

Well done my friend, well done!
Hugs

Wow. I had to go look at their website to understand what the heck a Zentangle was! Now I know. Sort of. It's a cool idea and reminds me that I used to doodle like this constantly as a student. But this looks interesting and I love the ones you did. YES! Def. post them. They're beautiful and they're yours.

It's funny that I should visit and see these Zentangles you've created. I had thought about purchasing the kit this past winter because I was intrigued and thought they'd be a great idea for not only me but my son...a way of relaxing, focusing in on one thing, and being creative. I then found myself thinking about them again recently and how I'd still like to try them. Now, I come here and see how fantastic yours are and I get to hear firsthand if they are helpful! I do hope you'll continue to post them. Do you find them therapeutic in a way? Do they help free your mind and declutter so new ideas can come through or are you constanty thinking about how to create the zentangle?

Sorry for so many questions! Your zentangles are beautiful!

I have to say, I'm tangled up in all this snippet of information and more questions than answers. But, I am very attracted to your third one....Ommmmmm

Love them. I tossed around buying the kit but I'm always discouraged buying from U.S. because of the exchange, it makes everything so expensive. You've made me want to order it again. Thanks for sharing yours. Do they give you lots of examples in the book. Is is worth the money?

Hybrid, your Zentangles are WONderful! The patterns go so well together, like intricate jewelry. And I'm in love with your 'imagine' in the window.

Thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful and warm message on my blog earlier this summer. The power of your words brought encouragement and hope. Thank you.
